ARINC is to provide IT maintenance and support for Japan's AVICOM Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS).
?Similar to the FAA in the United States, AVICOM is the Japanese service provider for airline and civil aviation communications.
AVICOM has been using ARINC ACARS technology since the 1990s, continually upgrading and expanding its technology to provide more robust communications capabilities, most recently adding ACARS data link infrastructure and multiple-service technology. With the continued expansion of its system capabilities, AVICOM selected ARINC to provide a more comprehensive and cost-effective maintenance solution.
"This is the first time we've been contracted to support an ACARS system and provide maintenance for back-end network infrastructure in this way," said Jim L. Martin, Managing Director, ARINC Asia Pacific. "This engagement highlights the flexibility of our IT support capabilities to develop solutions for a variety of technical environments."
Under the maintenance agreement, ARINC will provide dedicated on-site support at AVICOM's Network Operating Center in Tokyo and remote support for airport locations across Japan.
?ARINC's IT maintenance subsidiary, ARINC Managed Services, LLC (AMS), will provide the support to maintain the various passenger technologies in place at the airport.
?The contract specifies 24x7 on-call personnel to provide first and second-level maintenance support as well as the management and coordination with OEMs for any replacement or warranty issues.
?The dedicated team supports AVICOM's central processing and networking system together with multiple-service ground systems at 60 airport sites across Japan.
AMS first-level support encompasses primarily diagnostics activities, while second-level support includes hardware replacement with spares and break/fix coordination with OEMs.
?The complete ARINC managed solution comprises asset management, incident management, preventive maintenance and reporting.
