Shoaib Mohammad wants the Pakistani batsmen to play aggressively ? Cricket News Update
Shoaib Mohammad, the former Pakistan cricketer, has warned the national team management against pressing the panic button and advised the Green Shirts to learn from the South African batsmen in the on-going tour.
Misbah-ul-Haq and company, because of their form in Test cricket over the last couple of years, were expected to give a tough time to the Proteas.. This however, was not the case in the first fixture at Johannesburg as the hosts won by a mammoth margin of 211 runs after destructing the visitors for merely 49 runs in their first innings.
The second Test begins today at Cape Town, with the Pakistan side looking to salvage some pride and deliver the goods against the number one ranked Test team of the world.
Shoaib feels that the Green Shirts have always struggled to perform well in the South African conditions because the pitches there are hard and bouncy; whereas, players from the sub-continent are used to play on flat tracks. The former opening batsman wants the national team to show some character and make a comeback in the series.
He expressed, "We always find it difficult in South Africa, but you have to stay determined and fight the odds. Playing your shots is the best way to put the opposition under pressure."
Shoaib, who belongs to the famous ?Mohammad family? of Pakistan cricket, is of the opinion that the batsmen must look to play aggressively; otherwise, they will not have any chance of succeeding against the likes of Dale Steyn.
The former cricketer from Karachi has advised the Pakistani batsmen to observe the approach and techniques of the South African batsmen and learn from them. He further added that there is no need to make a lot of changes in the team after just one loss.
"One must not hesitate in playing the pull shot, if the field towards the mid-wicket region is in the circle. You must witness your opposition's style of play and learn from it. Our batsmen should keep a close eye on the South African batsmen and try to follow them. I am not fond of making too many changes or pressing the panic button," Shoaib added.
